FYI Bar Codes

ALWAYS READ THE LABELS ON THE FOODS YOU BUY---NO MATTER WHAT THE FRONT OF THE BOX OR PACKAGE SAYS, TURN IT OVER AND READ THE BACK---CAREFULLY!

With all the food and pet products now coming from China, it is best to make sure you read labels at the grocery store and especially Walmart when buying food products.

Many products no longer show where they were made, only give where the distributor is located.  It is important to read the bar code to track it's origin.

How to read Bar Codes ....interesting!

Can you differentiate which one is made in Taiwan or China?

If the first 3 digits of the barcode are

690, 691 or 692, the product is MADE IN CHINA.

471 is Made in Taiwan.

This is our right to know, but the government and related departments never educated the public, therefore we have to do it ourselves.

Nowadays, Chinese businessmen know that consumers do not prefer products "MADE IN CHINA", so they don't show from which country it is made.

However, you may now refer to the barcode --

remember if the first 3 digits are:

690 - 692 ... then it is MADE IN CHINA

00 - 09 ... USA & CANADA

30 - 37 ... FRANCE

40 - 44 ... GERMANY

471 ... Taiwan

49 ... JAPAN

50 ... UK

BUY USA & CANADIAN MADE by watching for "0" at the beginning of the number.

  2. The biggest problem is that a lot of items, food or pet or otherwise, are made in the U.S. or Canada but made with ingredients from China. That's what happened with the dog food that caused liver failure and killed so many pets. The food was made in the U.S. but it used contaminated wheat from China.
Unfortunately, bar codes can only tell us where something was packaged, not where the ingredients are from. If I didn't like salad so much (and live in Canada!) I'd be sticking pretty closely to the 100 mile diet.

  4. Oh, sorry, didn't realize you replied to my comment! The hundred mile diet is where you eat just what has been produced within a hundred miles of where you are. That means you, as a Texan, would have to survive on rattlesnake meat and cactus.
    Hahaha.
Sorry, I don't know what you grow there, but basically, you're supposed to eat what's in season, instead of buying stuff that was grown in another country out of season. So us poor, cold Canadians would only have fresh fruit and vegetables in the spring and summer, and in the winter we'd have to rely on root veggies, like carrots, turnips, potatoes, etc, that keep over the winter. You buy local meat and vegetables, thereby supporting your local farmers and knowing that any pesticides used were approved by your own government. And if you buy canned stuff, you buy stuff that is produced and made in the USA. It's a 100 mile DIET, not LIMIT, you ninny! Unfortunately, I'm typing this and munching on Chilean grapes.
