Paroled rapist, arrested on new rape charges, 6 slain women found during arrest

Newser) – Cleveland police have arrested a convicted rapist and discovered the remains of six bodies in and around his house. They're asking relatives of missing persons to bring them anything with DNA evidence to help identify the victims, reports the Plain Dealer. Anthony Sowell, 50, has lived at the house since 2005, when he was released from prison after serving 15 years for rape.

"He apparently is a serial rapist," a police spokesman tells CNN. Police found the first two bodies yesterday hidden on the third floor when they went to Sowell's house to charge him with an unrelated rape. Subsequent searches turned up others in the basement, crawl space, and in a shallow grave outside. They're still searching for more.

UPDATE:(Newser) – All six bodies found in the Cleveland home of a convicted rapist were female, and all were apparently strangled, police say. None of the victims found at the home of Anthony Sowell has been identified, a coroner's spokesman said today, and relatives of missing women have been coming forward to share and seek information. One of the bodies could be that of Sowell's sister, WTAM radio reports.

The first bodies were found Thursday night when police went to Sowell's home to arrest him on a new rape charge. Police say Sowell had spent 15 years in prison for a 1989 rape. The 50-year-old Sowell has been arrested, but no charges have been filed. Police are asking for the public's help in identifying missing people who may have been victims.

This is why there is no rehabilitation for rapists. They only progress to more and more crimes, and push it to the limits of human cruelty of sexual sadism and murder. By the time they get arrested for their FIRST CAUGHT rape, it is estimated they have already successfully assaulted 7 other people. This man is not the first rapist who has gone back to his feral hunt for prey of innocent women and children. Yet they have rights and the future victims, society at large has none. These could be your sisters, mothers, daughters, wives... or it could be you. The ripple outwards of the victims of these bastards seems to go on forever.

We need lawas for harsher sentencing, stricter parole boards. These animals deserve nothing more than life in prison. Let them fight to save their own selves. I find it disgusting that a pot dealer can get life in prison but a rapist averages 3-7 years for the first offense ( caught). What can you do? Write to your congresspeople of your state or the US House. Let them know you are sick of this sort of easiness for criminals to get out and do it again.....

15 year old raped while bystanders just watched and filmed

What the hell is wrong with society that no one does anyone in the face of evil criminal acts? Are we such a society that a bunch of assholes will VIDEOTAPE a 15 year old girls assault which lasted 2 hours, with their cell phones instead of calling 911? No they called others so the crowd grew larger. and still no one helped that poor child. She was traumatized and assualted so badly, that she had to be airlifted to the hospital.

Why arent parents teaching moral character? I hope and pray to God that the non participants are arrested as well. I am sure that many were teens as this girl was walking home afterhomecoming and the attack happened near her school. Two arrests have been made so far of her 7 attackers.

Newser) – Two arrests have been made in a homecoming night rape of a 15-year-old high school student that was witnessed by as many as 15 do-nothing bystanders. Some may have even participated in the two-hour attack in a San Francisco suburb while others apparently filmed the assault with cell phones, according to police. No one called police or helped the victim. "As people announced over time that this was going on, more people came to see, and some actually participated," said a police official. Newser) – San Francisco-area cops have arrested three more young men in the savage gang rape, beating, and robbery of a 15-year-old girl outside her homecoming dance while dozens more watched. Five youths are being held, ranging from a 15-year-old boy who knew the victim to a 21-year-old. The girl was drinking outside the dance Saturday night, reports the San Francisco Chronicle, and the group turned on her when she became drunk. Charges are expected today.

Can you imagine her terror and her shame, not only for the assault but for the fact that others watched and did nothing. She must blame herself for being in this situation because she got drunk with these boys/men . Which still does not excuse their behavior in any way shape or form.

I was beaten once by my ex at a party, which nothing compared to what this poor child went through, and I started thinking I must deserve this cus no one is stopping it. Victims blame themselves, it is automatic it seems, that we try to find ways to sort it out....no matter how wrong our thinking is. The assualt or beatings or whatever are bad enough, but when we find out someone saw it or knew of it and did nothing, we feel another conflicting things: anger at others, rage, terror of people, society and loss of trust.
